Berry in Sevens Final

Stu Berry of South Africa was one of the referees at the last round of the IRB Sevens Series in Edinburgh over the weekend and had the honour of refereeing the semifinal and the  Final.

The semifinal was a long match between Samoa and England. Samoa needed to win to win the series as it would mean that New Zealand could not then overtake them.

At the end of normal time, the score was 12-all. The teams then played five minutes' extra time in which the team scoring first would win. Samoa had the betteR of that period but still the scores were 12-all.  After a minute's break the teams then played a second period of five minutes. In the last second Berry penalised England and Samoa scored a penalty with a drop kick to go on into the final.

Berry was then appointed to the Final between Australia and Samoa, 10 minutes each way. This time the Samoans ran out clear winners 41-14.

Berry will send us his recollections of Edinburgh, as he did of London.
