Ruan Pienaar of Ulster misses a penalty kick at goal and Clermont Auvergne are to drop out. Julien Malzieu of Clermont takes a  quick kick, but the referee stops him, saying: 'Second ball just got thrown on.'

Clearly that could cause confusion.

Spare balls may be available during the match but a team must not gain or attempt to gain an unfair advantage by using them or changing them
