Nitpick of the week.
From a kick by Frans Steyn, Will Genia calls for and is given a mark.
With his left foot he taps the ball and then kicks it out with his right foot.
Law 21.4 (c) A clear kick. The kicker must kick the ball a visible distance. If the kicker is holding it, it must clearly leave the hands. If it is on the ground, it must clearly leave the mark.
Sanction: Unless otherwise stated in Law any infringement by the kicker’s team results in a scrum at the mark. The opposing team throw in the ball.
Is what Genia does a clear kick? His right hand certainly does not leave the ball - or the ball does not leave his right hand. Any departure from his left hand is minimal.
The referee would have been in his rights to order a scrum.
One would expect an international player to be more careful in such a case.
