Clip 5 - 1 September

Whose ball?

Australia attack on the left and Quade Cooper kicks a grubber into South African territory towards the touch-line but well infield. Kurtley Beale and Adam Ashley-Cooper chase the ball.

Frans Steyn of South Africa comes across and gathers the bouncing ball some four metres inside the field of play. He runs the ball into touch and throws it away.

The assistant referee raises his flag and indicates an Australian throw-in.

Steyn remonstrates with the assistant referee.

Steyn clearly gets the ball in the field of play. It is in touch when he took the ball into touch. Because he had taken the ball into touch it was an Australian throw-in.

Throwing the ball away could incur a penalty. Remonstrating with the assistant is silly and wrong.
