Clip 6 - 25 August

Injury stoppage

Western Province have the ball and they attack going left. Nick Koster has the ball and as he passes Louis Ludik of the Sharks tackles him.

When the ball comes back left Ludik is lying spreadeagled on his back. Adriaan Fondse has the ball near where Ludik is lying and a tackle/ruck starts to form.

The referee stops play.

Is he entitled to?

Yes.

Law 6.A.7 THE REFEREE’S WHISTLE
(b) The referee has power to stop play at any time.

Then what?

Law 6.A.8 THE REFEREE AND INJURY
If the referee stops play because a player has been injured, and there has been no infringement and the ball has not been made dead, play restarts with a scrum. The team last in possession throws in the ball. If neither team was in possession, the attacking team throws in the ball.

The scrum will go to Western Province.
