And then?
The Golden Lions win a turnover and Michael Killian goes haring down the touch-line on his left. As the cover comes to get him he kicks and old-fashioned cross kick infield which bounces towards the Pumas' line. Falling back Pumas right wing Vainon Willis gathers the bouncing ball about five metres from his line. The impetus of his running line and the pressure from Edgar Marutlulle and Jaco Taute takes him about 10 metres into his in-goal where he tries to kick clear. Wayne Swart of the Golden Lions charges down his kick well inside the Pumas in-goal. The charged kick flies into touch-in-goal.
The referee orders a drop-out.
Right?
No.
Law 22.7 (e) If a defending team has put the ball into their own in-goal and a defending player kicks the ball so that is charged down in in-goal and then made dead, the attacking side is awarded a 5-metre scrum in line with where the ball is made dead and they throw in the ball.
It should have been a five-metre scrum, Golden Lions ball.
In this match it did not matter as it was half-time.
