Clip 5 - 28 July

Pocock's intervention.

South Africa attack down the left. Bryan Habana runs for the corner but David Pocock tackles him and they go to ground. Habana flicks the ball inside towards Gio Aplon who is up in support.

The ball goes to ground where Victor Matfield secures it and a ruck forms about five metres from the Australian line. It is clearly a ruck with the ball coming back to  South Africa.

Suddenly Pocock charges at the ball. He comes in at the side. He scrabbles for the ball with his hands and dislodges it. He is penalised.

The referee takes no further action.

The referee may not have had a clear enough view in the hurly burly of the action but it was a clear enough view to penalise and his assistant had an excellent view as it was just in from touch.

Go back to the previous clip. Pocock seems more in the side than Botha was and he destroyed South Africa's ball whereas the Australians were still able to play the ball, retarded though it was. Both incidents were within scoring distance.

All things being equal Pocock seemed worthy of a yellow card regardless of what happened later to Botha.
