Clip 10 - 17 March

Our first nitpick this week.

The Sharks are playing from left to right. Andy Goode kicks off high and Odwa Ndungane, the Sharks' wing, chases the ball. It strikes Ndungane on the head and goes on into touch without first touching the ground.

Where do you give the line-out?

It's a small matter but it does reinforce a principle.

The assistant referee in this case gives the place of the line-out as opposite where the ball struck Ndungane, not five metres further down the field.

The business about no gain in ground when the ball goes directly into touch is only when the ball is kicked. Ndungane's head is not a boot.

The line-out should have been where the ball went out.

It is not the only nitpick we shall deal with this week!
