Clip 9 - 3 March

Which came first?

The Hurricanes are about to put the ball into a scrum. The referee goes through his sequence of instructions and then the front rows bind together and the referee freekicks the Lions for early engagement.

Have a look as carefully as you can and try to see which front row goes down first.

It is remarkably difficult to decide that the Lions went first and so deserved to be freekicked.

There is a cautionary tale for referees here, and that is to make sure of your decision. To be clear and obvious should be the referee's motto.

Clear and obvious is the route to take to consistency and accuracy, away from the iniquities of guesswork.

Marius Jonker must be fit - 223 points in two matches. He must sleep well after that but is awake to answer readers' questions.
