(1) WHAT IS YOUR EARLIEST SPORTING MEMORY?
"The 1976 Durban Test against NZ when Gerrie Germishuys ran around Brian Williams to score and we won the Test."
(2) WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A PROFESSIONAL REFEREE?
"The freedom."
(3) WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST REFEREEING MOMENT TO DATE?
"The two World Cups that I have represented SA in - 1999 and 2003, and now 2007. (The first South African to be involved in three - ed.) Both British Lions tours to Australia (2001) and New Zealand (2005), where I did a Test in each. Five Bledsloe Cup matches, with my favourite being in 2000 when John Eales won it for Australia in the last play of the game. My three Currie Cup Finals and the two Super 14 Finals I have done. I am very proud to be representing my people all over the world. It is a huge privilege and one I will always be grateful for."
(4) IF YOU WEREN'T A
REFEREE WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
"Entrepreneur... which is another way of saying who knows! I guess I would be involved in entertainment, food or tourism."
(5) IF YOU WERE REINCARNATED AS A PROFESSIONAL RUGBY PLAYER - WHAT POSITION WOULD YOU PLAY AND WHY?
"Fly-half. There's lots of pressure, but it's good position to be able to read the game and imprint strongly."
(6) DOES ANYBODY ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN A SCRUM?
"Everybody it seems! There are many dynamics at play and it is complicated. Sometimes each scrum has the same dynamics as a three-year appeal court trial... "
(7) WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
"Train, read, socialise and keep up to date with trends in the game. I have been trying to learn about wine ever since I moved to the Cape, but the more I learn, the less I know!"
(8) WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU PACK WHEN
GOING ON TOUR?
"As corny as it sounds, my whistle! I usually pack a couple of good reads, my on-field kit and then my off-field number ones. I have not forgotten anything so far and I have been on a couple of trips!! (Over the past 10 years I have accumulated well over 4.5-million air-miles.)"
(9) WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE SOMEONE'S GIVEN YOU?
"I get so much advice these days... I think my dad instilled a good work ethic in me from a young age. Don't expect anything to come free, all success and joy involves hard work sacrifice and trade-offs... But when it arrives it is sweet."
(10) WHAT DO YOU WATCH - PRISON BREAK, LOST OR DESPERATE HOUSWIVES? (AND WHY?)
"Prison Break. The other two are real-life scenarios, which I see a lot of when I am out and about."
